At
the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which will be held
next week, Qualcomm will present the
RF360, a chipset that manages the network connections and has the distinction of being compatible with
all existing mobile protocols (2G, 3G, 4G, etc..
). A boon to all
manufacturers of smartphones, but
also users who travel a lot.
Currently, mobile networks are
particularly heterogeneous and not
all intercompatible. Without
speaking of radio frequencies that
differ by country. Between 3G,
for example, and 4G, various problems affecting
the terminals when the user moves from using data to voice data. There
exist around forty different networks in the world and not all mobile phones are compatible with all.
Hence, for example, the Galaxy Note II, first released 3G version before being commercialized in 4G version.

This
problem frequency and protocol may
well be in a few months history. Qualcomm has
in fact present a chipset called RF360, which is
compatible with all frequencies and all protocols currently used in the world. Therefore a
boon for all manufacturers,
including those selling their products
on five continents with this chip, a single smartphone model will be required for international launches. Where the cost of production will
decline further.
Obviously, Qualcomm hopes that
manufacturers will choose its Snapdragon platform to animate equipped mobile
RF360 and Gobi
equivalent for GSM modems. Officially, it is only to
optimize the exchange of information
between the heart of the system and chipset dedicated
radio frequency. But
it is clear that this is primarily
to push out the
main competitors such as Texas
Instruments and Nvidia.
The first mobile to integrate RF360 should be available in the second half of 2013.
