Robert Jain: The Video Games That Made The Most Money

By Jason McDonald

There are many forms of entertainment that have been successful, but few can claim that they've reached the heights of video games. For many people, gaming is the greatest hobby in the world. For others, it's an area where money can be made. As a matter of fact, there exists a bevy of titles that have been fiscally successful, generating ample profits in the process. Here are the games that have been most successful, in this regard, as detailed by Robert Jain.

Super Mario Bros. - While it was released on a number of platforms since then, Super Mario Bros. made its debut on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985. Even if you're not an avid gamer, chances are that you're familiar with this title, or even played it before. What you may not know is how successful it was. According to names in finance like Bob Jain, this title sold more than 40 million copies during its time, which only increased with every subsequent rerelease.

Wii Sports - This was the pack-in title with the Nintendo Wii, and it became a sensation. As a matter of fact, many households still have Wiis for the purpose of playing tennis, golf, and especially bowling. In any event, Wii Sports' success is nothing short of amazing. Nintendo reported that it sold over 45 million copies. The combination of motion controls, which were revolutionary in 2006, and the accessibility made Wii Sports a huge success.

Minecraft - If you're the kind of person that likes building, exploring, and pushing boundaries, Minecraft may be the game for you. Minecraft encouraged players to explore the vast world available to them, which would allow them to build whatever they set their minds to, provided they had the resources. Not only did this indie title eventually become acquired by Microsoft, but it sold over 50 million copies across numerous devices. These include, but aren't limited to, PCs and smartphones.

Tetris - For those that are into puzzle games, it goes without saying that Tetris stakes its claim at the top of the mountain. This is due to a number of reasons, too. While its gameplay is addictive, especially for those that can't help but enjoy a good challenge, it sold 170 million copies across consoles, handhelds, and mobile devices alike. Many other puzzle games have surfaced since then, but none have been able to reach this level of success.
